Here’s a view of the beach from the deck and hot tub.

Maybe a relaxing soak in the hot tub overlooking the beach followed by an outdoor shower. (It’s a private outdoor shower with shampoo and shower gel and a lighted dressing area with electrical outlets.)

Maybe save the hot tubbing for later … under the stars with the sound of the waves on the beach.

Maybe, you can just sit on the deck with a cool drink in your hand and watch the pelicans fly by and the dolphins swim in the waves.

A February sunset. A walk on the beach at sunset any time of year is inspiring.

Lulu Rose is an original Holden Beach cottage … lovingly restored … and brought into the 21st century!

You are RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Walk from your private deck, down your private walkway onto the sand!

The little cottage is perfect for a couple on a romantic getaway or for a small family. Lulu Rose can also give you the luxury of privacy and serenity during larger family gatherings or group events that take place on Holden Beach. (She has been the Honeymoon Suite and the Aunties’ Getaway many times!) Lulu Rose is a one of a kind beach cottage made to make you feel pampered while you’re having fun at the beach. (My husband and I named the little cottage after our mothers … who else really knew how to pamper you?)

When you arrive, your beds will be made with 500 thread count 100% cotton bed linens. Bath towels, including beach and spa towels (all 100% cotton) are there for you with a package of Bath and Body Works amenities. There will be bottled water chilled in the refrigerator for you. (And, the essential paper products to allow you to take a needed break after your travels!)

Relax. Maybe soak in the refinished 1934 Kohler claw-foot tub … there’s bath salts in your amenities package. (If showering is your choice, there is a large custom shower in the other bathroom.)

When you start feeling hungry, there are restaurants on the island, right across the bridge on the waterway, on the causeway, on the way into town (Shallotte), in Shallotte, on the way to Myrtle Beach (south), which includes Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach or on the way to Wilmington (north), which includes Southport and Oak Island. Lots to choose from … from casual to very casual!

There is an alternative, you could cook!

The kitchen in Lulu Rose is well equipped and well lighted … a tiny gourmet kitchen really. It makes cooking fun.

There are new stainless steel appliances, microwave and garbage disposal and lots of granite counter space, including a raised bar with chairs. There is an icemaker and filtered water dispenser in the refrigerator door. There is a separate lighted wine refrigerator. There are small appliances, including a coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, and toaster. There’s even a bar-b-que area outside … lighted and with running water and bar-b-que utensils.

There are two farmers markets in the area to purchase the freshest produce, jams and condiments. There is an abundance of fresh seafood available. You can purchase oysters and shrimp and flounder right off the boats. There is a Food Lion grocery at the end of the causeway.

If you want to venture out for other than beach activities, drive to historic Southport and take a ferry to Fort Fisher and visit the aquarium. Visit historic Wilmington, the USS North Carolina and The Ivy Cottage in Wilmington, the largest consignment store on the east coast. Have lunch at one of the restaurants overlooking the Cape Fear River. Or, have lunch or an early dinner at Indochine … you’ll think you’ve stepped into another world!

Or, go south to Myrtle Beach for miniature golf, to Barefoot Landing or Tangor Outlet Mall.

(Costco, both with gas, in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach.)

Or, get up early and take a day to see Charleston. See Hampton Plantation on the way. Shop for Gullah sea grass baskets from the roadside artisans in Mt. Pleasant. Take a city tour. Have a great low country meal. Visit the Charleston Visitor Center on Meeting Street for lots of fun and interesting things to do and see.

Or, stay closer to home. Mary’s Gone Wild folk art. Silver Coast Winery. Indigo Farms. Lockwood Folly Golf. All the little shops on the causeway. The Cinemas.

Or, stay really close to home and swim, fish, kayak, boogie board, windsurf, bike, jet ski, parasail, or wreck dive. (There are many good massage therapists near the island!)

Whatever you choose to do, you’ll have a great time, and at the end of the day, there is nothing like returning to the beach and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves.

Welcome to Holden Beach.

Welcome to Lulu Rose.

P.S. Sam and I love to cook. Cooking is how we unwind at the end of the day. Holden Beach offers all sorts of local, fresh produce, seafood, poultry, and game, and we have equipped Lulu Rose with everything we could think of to cook delicious meals and to have some fun and share good company at the same time.

Lately, I have been getting questions about the local restaurants, reminding me that cooking every day and evening is not everyone’s idea of a vacation … or fun. So, I asked a few friends for their favorite restaurants and put together a list, including addresses, distances from Lulu Rose, phone numbers (you can call from the house phone now that we have the ATMC extended calling), and websites.

At least one of us or a friend, had a good dining experience at these restaurants, but we are all so different with what we look for when we eat out, so please look at the websites and some online reviews when you are choosing where to go.
